Agriculture is one of the major sectors in Pakistan’s economy contributing up to 18.9 percent of GDP and absorbs 42.3 percent of labor force. Based on modern economic trends, the induction of sustainability, recyclability and value addition processes are core idea features to utilize and enhance full scale potential of this sector.

Cantex is an initiative inspired from the core concept of cradle to cradle and circular economy, using sugarcane as the main raw material. The startup proposed a pilot project on small-scale organic jaggery manufacturing unit. This manufacturing process will produce bagasse as by-product which can be utilized to make pulp and finally convert it into biodegradable packaging. The proposed project is not only limited to bagasse based packaging, but have the potential to utilize recycled paper and other agriculture residues as fibrous source of cellulose to create value added nonwoven products. This proposal deals with green, sustainable, recyclable and a low-cost alternative using Bagasse fibers which are abundantly available in the region.
