Long description

This project aims to empower 34 informal waste actors around Indonesia to implement innovative and creative design to handle household waste smarter, that supports Indonesia’s target of 30% household and similar waste reduction and 70% household and similar waste handling by 2025. In Indonesia, household waste accounts for 48% of overall waste generated in a day, with the composition of organic waste, plastic, paper, and also textile.

The existing way of handling household waste does not incentivise favorable behavior, waste handling activities are still seen as a time consuming chores, due to the lack of knowledge and responsibility of the waste that households produce. Through a series of activities and participatory capacity building, this project expects to increase participants’ knowledge, responsibility, skill, networking, and overall capacity to handle household waste smarter in an innovative and creative way through several R strategies. We are expecting outcomes where participants are responsible for the waste they produce, and aware of smarter ways to handle household waste which are more beneficial and sustainable. This project also aspires to reach a greater impact by training more waste actors which will be conducted by initial participants at the end of the project.
