Cigarette Butt to New Material

The project is to transform cigarette butt waste into new material that has economic value. As we know that, a cigarette butt is a residual waste usually neglected to be treated and quickly ending up somewhere, especially in the landfill and ocean. This becomes a serious problem because the cigarette butt contains toxic chemicals that take a long time to unravel. So, we aim to encourage smokers to be more responsible and not throw away their cigarette butt waste haphazardly. This project is held with the collaboration of coffee shops and public spaces to collect cigarette waste. Then, the cigarette butt waste treatment is supported by hydrothermal technology. This technology heats up and shreds the waste until resulting in homogenous and high durability products. With hydrothermal, cigarette waste is sterilized from microbes and bacteria. The treated cigarette butt can result in new, safe, and eco-friendly new materials. Our recycled products are building material, ashtray, stool, pot, and other outdoor furniture.
