Modular and multifunctional chain jewellery made from emerald by-products and recycled materials.
Long description
This concept idea explores the relationship between product modularity, connectedness and material regeneration through interchangeable connector links that form multiple combinations of chains and juxtapose a variety of materials and theme features in a sustainable context.
The connectors serve as the bridge to link and re-use chain and the aim is to maximise the use of each of the components, adapting to the variable needs of users and ensuring the product is circulated in its most valuable form for as long as possible.
In this jewellery format, chains can be simplified, amplified, segmentally optimized and fully customised. All the connectors are designed to merge seamlessly and the user can add, collect and upgrade them progressively as well as exchanging and sharing them between a community of users/connectors.
The project overall is driven by circular design and resource efficiency, material focus has been on emerald by-products, the resulting grit from emerald mining. We recover and process this material to obtain emerald stone from the mined debris that would otherwise end up overlooked and discarded and transform it through the connectors.
