Communal compost stations for helping the community and the planet.

Communal Compost (Gempi)
In Mexico City the population has grown exponentially in the last years, leading to more consumption and waste. Since the population growth Mexicans are used to living in buildings and/or shared-homes where it is more complicated to separate waste as a whole.
But what is the huge problem we encountered? Not only the waste is not being managed properly at homes but the garbage collection is not efficient, some collectors complain about separation and the service is not constant nor adapted to people’s routines. This causes people to get rid of their garbage as soon as possible leading them to burn out their trash since pests and bad smells are generated from the waste.
That’s why we decided to help Mexicans, specifically housewives, to make the management of their waste easier, giving them an economic and practical option to separate and take advantage of their organic waste. Our communal compost is a product that will be placed in public spaces within the neighborhoods that all can use at any hour so compost can be generated and later used for their green areas, personal garden or for making profit out of it. This way we give them opportunities, learning and empowerment to all the community.
