Breaking the unconscious bias in your shopping choices, whilst living within planetary boundaries to replenish earth.

Long description

We are just one click away from buying anything from anywhere in the world. We humans have always been collectors and hoarders and with the ease of access accelerating this dangerous tendency, we are actively exacerbating the consequences of our choices and wants to pose on the planet. . Making such detrimental choices increasingly on e-commerce platforms play a greater role in reinforcing cognitive biases: such as scarcity bias, social-acceptance (conformity bias) and default choices.   This workshop is centered around how these cognitive biases affect the perception of sustainability narratology and action through the lens of consumerism, highlighting the biases which are obvious ( default choices) to the consumer. Through playful activities that have been uniquely designed to make people realise the impact of their day to day decisions in life, people are made aware of how their lifestyles and choices may or may not be within the planetary boundaries.   Learned behaviour over centuries has shaped our neurology and how we behave whilst purchasing. The Limbic and Reptilian brain work on survival and have very strong subconscious influence over behaviour, such as the impact on our food, sleep and work habits. A consequence of disturbing these behaviours without true awareness will inevitably manifest in the form of depression, hoarding and status-anxiety.   These hidden automatic reactions will remain latent as long as these behaviours are not brought to the conscious mind.
