Achieving universal maternal health coverage using recyclable waste in as insurance premium

Long description

In Sub Sahara Africa, new innovative models are needed to handle plastic waste better since regional waste production is projected to 269 million tonnes. Over 70% of mothers do not have access to quality maternal health, putting them at risk of developing preventable complications. These factors create a great opportunity to use an innovative micro-sustainable maternal health insurance for mothers using recyclable waste.

The insurance premium will cover the cost of using the DawaMom services. The DawaMom platform is a digital health platform empowering mothers to receive remote maternal health while guiding them through pregnancy. The platform is accessible via a smartphone, a USSD/SMS app, a web portal, and an AI-powered chatbot. Through our platform, mothers parameters like pregnancy-induced: blood pressure, diabetes, urinary tract infections, and other complications are monitored. The data is then wired to medical experts who provide remote medical insights.

Also, through the platform, mothers can receive remote ultrasound scans and action plans around delivery. Using this innovative approach, we believe we can achieve universal maternal health coverage curbing maternal mortality.
