Long description

In the Edo period, people used to recycle various kinds of things.  This good old trend should change the present-day environment as well.  We claim that the Japanese spirit of “mottainai” (What a waste!) recreates such a recycling society again and this naturally involves as many people as possible in the society, rather than forcing them to do so.  This project aims to create a clean and beautiful future for our society by forming a new sustainable recycling system.

In Tokyo, the current recycling rate of household food waste is lower than that of companies.  We begin by increasing this household recycling rate first, which results in improving the global environment.  Specifically, we plan to collect food waste, make fertilizer from it, and utilize the secondary energy generated by processing fertilizer.

Moreover, Tokyo has a number of unused parks.  We plan to develop them as common spaces for communities, which leads to solving the ‘site planning’ problems.  In this way, we can have people participate in various fun activities, building a ‘true’ sustainable recycling system.
