Long description
Conventional flowers are wasteful. Flowers we consider a product from nature is in fact developed into a lucrative but mass-produced product by the industry. Due to genetically modified flowers and the use of chemicals involved in the process of production, flowers have lost their medicinal properties what makes them solely valuable for decoration. We have forgotten about their potential to heal and nurture us, and its contribution to a healthy ecosystem. By investigating the environmental impact of the floricultural sector and researching the initial value of flowers, I realized that the flower industry shows an enormous contradiction between what nature is and how nature should be. With my expertise as a certified florist in combination with my design degree, I developed Floral Lab., a modular vase that aims to transform the current perspective on consuming flowers in modern days. Floral Lab. consists of 4 elements that are individually inspired by kitchen- and floristry tools, such as a flower divider, sieve, and mortar. The Floral Lab. will function as a physical tool for starting a movement where I inspire consumers to look at flowers differently. Together with other experts of flowers, such as herbalists, florists, chefs, and floristry schools and foragers, I will create a platform where we can inform consumers about the importance of organic flowers to our health and the environment, and inspire them with daily content. This could be floristry tips, care instructions, culinary or remedial recipes.
