Portable water cooler that attacks racial and environmental violence in Mexico.
Long description
Portable clay cooler that lowers the contained water temperature up to 7º C in less than 30 minutes. The decrease in water temperature is achieved through the evaporative process, which is possible due the physical properties of Atzompa clay and the cooler shape. Facing the excessive consumption of bottled water in Mexico but above all, with the constant racism towards indigenous populations and their knowledge reflected in craftsmanship, Frontera is a pertinent response that fits and questions the historical narrative of our identity as mexicans. Throughout its history, Mexico has been distinguished as one nation between tradition and progress; between indigenous and mestizo. A hypocritical country that has exalted and folklorized the indigenous populations abroad, but has discriminated against them internally. The relevance of proposing an object that revalues and resignifies the use of clay and adapts to new uses and purposes, is a way to legitimize indigenous populations. The prestige of the original groups is to recognize their practices as legitimate and true. This could reverse stereotypes and most of all combat the monster of racism, says Dr. Natividad Gutiérrez Chong. Craftsmanships is in a dynamic strap that articulates tradition and modernity. And perhaps the only way to resolve such tension is across the border: a space were two opposing ideas manage to coexist and reconcile.
