Long description
Whales Engineering Company in partnership with Victoria Green Farms have been researching on the use of Black Soldier Fly Larvae(BSFL) as a solution to bioconversion, to break down organic waste, saving the environment up to 70% of methane (that is worse to the environment than carbon) that would be instead produced if the organic waste was dumped to garbage sites to rot and decay over time, broken down by microbial activity.
BSFL is a solution to save our country, and with keen focus on Nairobi which produces over 4000 tones of organic wastes daily. The waste produced could be well separated in three categories, organic, plastic and general. With this kind of specification, plastic and general would be put to recycle and reuse, while the organic would be channeled to bioconversion and biogas production.
Our partnership with Victoria Green Farms was after they mentioned of the rise in high cost of animal feeds due to the rise of cost of fish meal and the over fishing instances that now faces the lake, making demand supersede supply, hence high prices.
BSFL comes in handy due to its 50% protein content and rich in amino acids to the equivalent of fish meal, and since it will have been produced from organic waste, and with a very simple method, it will lower the costs of animal feeds, and increase human feeds capacities. BSFL leaves behind frass, which is the remains and this is a very rich organic manure, good for farming.
