KUMBUKA's mission is to offer sustainable packaging, made from molded pulp produced with 100% recycled and biodegradable paper.
Long description
The aim of the project is to present Brazilian ecological initiatives to participants of events and festivals in Brazil, through the development of a new form of food packaging, showing that cultural and ecological inclusion can be found in all material ecosystems.
KUMBUKA’s mission is to offer solutions in sustainable packaging and containers, made from molded cellulose produced with 100% recycled and biodegradable paper. This material is more economical than other biodegradable and recyclable materials, such as lactic polyacid plastic or cassava starch. The molded pulp production process consists of separating the cellulose fibers from the cardboard or the newsprint shavings and mixing them with water. The homogeneous mass created goes through a process of suction molding and drying on a large scale, giving shape and final finishing to the product. This process is already used for the production of egg cartons. Regarding the circular economy, the recyclable raw material of cardboard would be captured both by reusing KUMBUKA packaging and through partnerships with recycling centers and local waste pickers.
Our goal is to rethink the cycles of consumption and disposal of packaging, with a focus on sustainable / economical solutions and eco-friendly concepts. The packaging also becomes a symbol of the ecological concern of the events and businesses where it will be used, and can be customized according to the demand of each client to reflect the local culture.
