KUORI, the development of a biodegradable alternative material considering the circular economy.

During my bachelor thesis @institutindustrialdesign this year, I asked myself why we don’t create products that we can take from nature and feed it back into the cycle? And why don’t we pay more attention to this actual waste product when we transport the banana to Europe already 20-30 days steadily cooled?

The concept is to transform the banana peel from a waste product into a sustainable, natural material and therefore extend the circular loop of the banana fruit. 

The experiment serves as an approach to solve the disposal of non-recyclable products.

*Note only food waste from the banana industry within Switzerland was used to produce these samples.
