Metamorph'Oil is a service to reuse used sunflower oil from the catering industry to protect and enhance wood.

Long description

In 2021, about 230 billion of cooking oil were consumed in the catering industry worldwide. The oil clogs the pipes. Therefore, some cities are collecting this ‘greasy waste’ in order to burn it and ideally, to make biofuel. Another issue relates to wood as nowadays most wood intended for outdoor use are treated with substances containing heavy metals such as Copper-Chromium-Arsenic, which are highly polluting. Our proposal is to replace these substances by the use of environmentally friendly sunflower oils.

Metamorph’Oil is a service to reuse used sunflower oil to protect and embellish interior and exterior wood. To kickoff the project we would like to implement it in Paris. We propose to associate our project with the existing French company ‘Oléobois’. This company designs vegetable oils products to protect wood in a ‘100% ecological way’. However their products are complex due to the mixture of several oils, which makes them relatively expensive. The idea would be to enrich Oléobois’ offer with a range of simpler, less technical but more accessible products made from used sunflower oils. We propose to adapt existing tuns to collect the oils, filter them, and store them for bulk sale at Oléobois. Sunflower oil dries in the open air without any additives. This oil protects the wood from the weather and maintains its dimensional stability. It could be an economical solution to extend the life of wood and allows wood to be recycled or burned without
