Re-thinking mass consumption and production through distributive manufacture, parametric customization and DIY prosumer culture.
Long description
Nomade Editions is a new bespoke DIY furniture label that addresses mass production and consumption through the empowerment of a DIY prosumer culture. Using parametric design, we enable people to customize, personalize and download designs to make themselves with the help of local CNC fabrication.
Inspired by Italian design master, Enzo Mari’s 1970’s project – “Autoprogettazione”, our furniture is co-designed with the end-user and is made to measure on-demand to individual requirements. Our project takes Mari’s a step further, utilizing digital manufacture and parametric design, allowing a level of customization – all the while still emphasizing Mari’s sentiment about people understanding the nature of quality.
We hope that our current culture of constant over-consumption can be reduced when people have a closer connection with the objects that they live and work with. By taking part in the process of creation, you experience a sense of value and appreciation that goes beyond the economic and becomes personal and enriching.
At Nomade Editions, we want to empower people to start making things again. We share how things are made and the thinking behind design decisions, materials, and resources used.
Industrialization and mass production have removed us from making processes, molding us into passive consumers and hiding from us their destructive environmental effects.
We encourage people to try out a new world of digital making, which we hope will positively transform the way society produces things, by accurately catering to needs, valuing precious resources, and experiencing the joy of creation.
