Making packaging disappear, naturally.

Long description

We have a plastic problem. Every year, 8 million tonnes of it are dumped in the oceans. It’s clear that current packaging habits simply can’t continue. We need to change the world’s behaviours when it comes to single-use plastic.

Enter Notpla: a revolutionary, seaweed-based material that naturally decomposes in weeks (700 years for plastic). A sustainable packaging start-up on a mission to make packaging as we know it disappear, naturally.

With our team of chemists, engineers, designers and entrepreneurs, backing by impact VC funds both in the US and in Europe, and a collaboration with global branding agency, Superunion, all aligned in our vision of a world free from packaging pollution. Together, we created a brand that would leave people in no doubt about our potential value to the world.

Born to find a solution to single-use plastic, Notpla (an abbreviation of ‘Not Plastic’) is an edible, entirely natural and biodegradable material made from seaweed. Unlike many other packaging companies that use bioplastics, which behave like and are technically still plastics, we have fully moved away from using synthetic materials altogether. Not only the brand name but also the name of this revolutionary material, Notpla can be used directly to replace plastic cups at sporting events and festivals, as well as sachets for condiments, and can be made into thin films or coatings for cardboard to create a wide range of products. A brand at the forefront of environmental sustainability and that signifies fully natural packaging.
