off plate is a culinary collective working to change how we talk and interact with food and drink through design and collaboration.

off plate is a culinary collective that aims to reimagine and directly implement a more social and sustainable approach to food, one that can directly reduce CO2 emissions. Food and drink are essential and the most influential media to make a collective change towards a better future. Our mission is to open a conversation and stimulate cooperation within food systems, both local and global, and examine our role as individual citizens and communities.

Temporary events are hosted within our designed open-plan, modular neighborhood kitchen and bar. Local food system players – farmers, chefs, policy makers, citizens, environmentalists, food councils – are invited to eat, drink and talk about our complex relationship to food, one that is inadvertently tied to waste creation, i.e. packaging, food waste, food loss.

The farm-to-table concept is utilized to directly reduce packaging waste, food miles and offer increased freshness. Moreover, food is offered first-come-first-serve, minimizing food waste from unserved portions. Locally-sourced beverages are drafted out of reusable stainless steel kegs, evading single-use packaging.

The off plate approach is implementable in other spaces and places with the help of an open-source handbook. This handbook will offer a starting point and tools detailing how citizens can take action within their own communities and to expand the conversation within the local food system.

off plate’s journey started in Cologne, went to Vienna and plans to realize our next projects in our hometown Frankfurt. Change is made locally. Why not with good food and wine?
