Recycling organic waste for a sustainable and healthy environment.

Long description

The annual production of household waste in Morocco is estimated at 7 million tonnes, the equivalent of a ratio of 0.76 Kg / Inhabitant / day; with a predominance of organic matter which represents up to 70% of the total weight and a high humidity (65%) on the one hand. Because the Souss region is an agricultural region, the amount of green waste produced in this region is estimated at 9 million tonnes per year on the other hand. Nationally, Morocco is subject to annual losses of organic matter due to the overexploitation of agricultural soils, the total minimum need for stable organic matter in Morocco is estimated at 6.25 million tons / year. In Morocco, household waste deposits have significant economic potential, which is still very little exploited. According to the Ministry of the Environment, the quantity of waste produced in Morocco currently reaches 5.3 million tonnes of household waste in urban areas with an estimate of 6.2 million tonnes in 2020. This waste can pose several problems. They are poorly managed:
• A risk to public health
• Odor nuisance
• If exposed to rain, this waste can pollute groundwater or contaminate soils.
