There is not better collection and classification of residues that the one you make at home.
Long description
The project aims to redesign the waste management systems in Mexico City. It proposes creating governmental waste collection centers (g-WCC) in each neighborhood. Citizens can take their residues to the g-WCC and receive a small compensation in the form of digital bonus points (dBp). If citizens cannot take their residues to the g-WCC, it has an UBER-Waste service. Although, citizens won’t receive any dBp. The g-WCC has a digital platform called “follow your residues”. The g-WCC employees and platform guide the citizens on properly separating their residues and count their dBp. Also, they provide information to highlight the relevance of responsible consumption. The g-WCC also receives goods with the potential to be refurbished and resold. The citizens can use their dBp to buy refurbished goods or basic basket products in associated supermarkets.
The benefits of the project are the following. 1) reducing the waste that goes to landfills and open dumps, which has adverse effects on health, and water and land pollution; 2) generating jobs with the creation of g-WCC, which transforms the informal labor of the sector into civil servants that pay taxes and have social security; 3) fostering the public and private investment in waste industry (recover, recycle, refurbish, repair, and reuse) once the collected residues are properly separated; 4) encouraging the digitalization of the waste sector, by implementing the dBp and UBER-waste; 5) nurturing the engagement of citizens by providing transparent information and rewards.
