Bringing awareness to clean drinking water and plastic Waste.
Long description
Indonesia, is ranked fourth in the world by population. This number is closely followed by the amount of trash produced, Indonesia ranking second in the world with a number up to 3,2 million tons of plastic trash per year and is still increasing by 11,2% every year. Jakarta, is one of the main contributors of plastic waste, producing up to 26% of the plastic waste in the whole country. One of the main plastic waste in Indonesia is the PET bottle. Even people who bring their own water bottle from home inevitably find themselves buying these water bottles due to the lack of refill stations available. This defeats the purpose of bringing our own water bottle. Our project is a water refill station, designed in a sculpture-like form out of these used PET bottles, aims to raise people’s awareness on how many plastic waste we’re producing. So much that we can possibly makes quite a number of these water stations. Aside from being iconic, this form is also intended for rainwater harvesting. The whole process behind it is simple enough. The sculpture like form above opens out, covering as much ground for maximum rainwater harvest. This rainwater would then flows underground by gravitation, where it will then be stored in the water storage. In between the tap and the storage is a filter that cleans the water to make it drinkable. This project aims to remind people of easy water access, encouraging people to bring their own water bottle.
