Increasing crop yields, reducing environmental pollution and mitigating climate change through pineapple waste biochar and compost application.
Long description
My main idea is to recycle pineapple waste (peels, leaves, crowns, core, etc) to increase crop productivity in an economically feasible and climate-smart approach. The project focuses on the sustainable production of eco-friendly biochar to improve soil quality and tackle diseases incidence, air and water pollution associated with indiscriminate disposal of pineapple waste in Ghana.
My goal is to design and implement an affordable and climate-smart pineapple waste management system by converting pineapple wastes into biochar and compost that can be used to improve soil fertility, increase crop yield, enhance food security, prevent environmental pollution and essentially climate change mitigation which at the long run would help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as no poverty, no hunger, clean water and sanitation, good health and well-being, and climate action since it’s a decade of action.
