Pixies: urban furniture to clean the environment.
Long description
Pixies is a reality that intends to make our cities increasingly efficient, sustainable and “self-sustaining”. Our vision for the city of tomorrow can help us fight climate change challenges. Pixies plans to save at least 3 million tons of CO2 every year by giving life to the small elements cities are made of, such as urban furniture (benches), and enable them to take care of the cities themselves.
The project started from the will to empower the physical space to act against the pressing issues we face. As architects living in urban spaces, we felt that all this should start from Cities because it is them that cause up to 80 % of the damage we do to the environment every year. All the plastic bottles, cans and cigarettes that are tossed every day on the streets unavoidably cause many problems in terms of environmental pollution and wildlife Pixies is a high-tech project that offers:
Autonomous cleaning of urban contexts combining a smart bench and mobile robots;
AI to recycle and plastic waste;
Reuse of plastic waste;
Waste Data Collection;
Zero-impact system thanks to exploitation of solar energy.
Its general functioning foresees: the installation of a bench, containing two robots inside, in a certain space of the city (squares, parks, etc…). This, using solar energy, charges the robots and, once the outdoor conditions have been ascertained, it allows them to go out and clean the space following predefined paths, collecting important data on waste and on the environmental conditions.
