Using recycled plastic as art material.

Long description

“I want to tell you one word… Plastic… Plastic has a great future! Think about it”. From the movie “Graduate”, 1967, It is incredible how plastic has turned from a once-revolutionary material into a global environmental problem. Millions of tons of plastic are produced annually. Most of the plastic products made are not recycled.

I want to show with my project that you can make incredible things from recycled plastic. Plastic can be used not only as a utilitarian material but also as an artistic one.

I am experimenting with different fractions of recycled plastic. For example, the base of the coffee table Cosmic Coral was made of recycled low-pressure high-density polyethene in granules. The sculpture Asteroid was made of black recycled HDPE granulate. The lamp Arctic Vibes from shredded recycled HDPE. The only selection criteria are safe for human exploitation and the ability to recycle.

I create objects by spot heating and shaping the form layer by layer without using any binders. Thereby items can be successfully recycled again. With this production method, there is no redundant, unnecessary material, so everything goes into action. The production does not require the use of electricity and water at all.

The proposed production method allows a designer anywhere in the world to make fantastic things out of recycled plastic.

I believe that products made from recycled plastic, as art objects, most emotionally affect people, thereby changing the reputation of plastic for the better. Plastic is not trash; it is excellent art material!
