FabricAID re-designed the textiles industry collection and redistribution process in Lebanon and is scaling up in the region.

Long description

FabricAID has re-designed the collection, sorting and redistribution process of textiles. Its model contributes to decent work creation and decreases South-North dependence on second hand clothing imports. The re-designed social business model won the Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) and its founder was recognized by the United Nations Environment Programme as the Champion of the Earth for West Asia in 2019. The model does not only develop the infrastructure to collect, it also provides in a story and communication opportunity to change people’s mentality on donating clothes and stimulating reuse.

After some tough times, with one of our locations completely destroyed in the Beirut explosion and covid-lockdowns, FabricAID has regained its strength and is opening up in Jordan to scale-up its model.

FabricAID joins the No-Waste-Challenge for two reasons:

1) The model is replicable for other materials, and FabricAID hopes to inspire others to tackle waste through a social enterprise model; and
2) Working with like-minded organizations on developing linkages between responsible collection and processing actors.

The scale-up will showcase that FabricAID’s model works in other countries in the region and that there’s no other way to solving our earths crises than working together.
