To fix and construct furniture with processed waste for the islanders, that will enhance and capture their essence and memories.
Long description
At the end of 2020, the island of Providence was hit by Hurricane Iota and 98% of the infrastructure was destroyed, leaving the people without their belongings and elements that build their home. Taking this into account, the project Renacer como memoria has the purpose to fix and construct furniture that captures the culture and essence of the island, while enhancing the memories from the tradition and heritage of the islanders, by using the waste generated by the hurricane Iota.
The traditional furniture, such as china closets, tables, chairs and rocking chairs, are essential pieces in the rebuilding of homes for the islanders. These intend to represent each family’s heritage while maintaining its historic and sentimental value, at the same time as combining an antique and contemporary style. Furthermore, for this project to take place, it is necessary the joint work of the islanders, artisans, recycling collection centers and experts in design, in order to capture the true essence of the island, take advantage of the waste generated and create or fix furniture filled with value and memories.
