RePurpose Plastic is a social enterprise that decentralizes a recycling factory into micro recycling machines, which are operated by micro-franchises across communities and provide income generation and monetary value to people who provide us with their plastic waste. Living in Kenya, we have witnessed the impacts that plastic waste pollution is having on our land, oceans, and waterbodies. Our business model is focused on creating value for all types of consumed plastic waste by designing a marketplace ‘return it depot’ where people in a community can sort and return all types of plastic waste and receive a monetary benefit. Through a low-cost recycling shredding machine, plastic will be shredded and repurposed into long life span products that are sold and provide value to a community. 

Another aspect of our business model that we are interested in exploring is to change the consumption of plastic by supplying alternative / biodegradable materials in the industry. We see part of our social enterprise in extracting existing plastic waste pollution and turning it into products that have a long life-span while also creating products (straws, cups, plates) from healthy plant-based materials as opposed to single use plastic.
