The amount of plastic waste generated today is mind boggling, more than 8.3 billion tonnes since the 1950s. Only 9% of this plastic has been recycled so far. The economic incentives are simply not aligned to recycle this waste due to the complexities involved in segregation, cleaning, processing and eventual degradation of plastic polymers. There is just not enough demand for post recycled goods.
We believe the solution lies in simply not creating the waste in the first place!
How it works for customers:
Restore provides an online marketplace that allows packaging to be reused. Customers place an order online and pay a deposit for the container. Once they have consumed the product Restore will pick up the bottle, sanitize, refill it and put it back into circulation. By reusing the bottles we are not only maximizing the value of the material, but we are also able to ensure proper handling of its end of life.
How it works for companies:
Companies send us their product in bulk in reusable drums. We package the product and ship it locally within each city to minimize the carbon footprint. By onboarding several different brands we can ensure that customers have their favourite options available to them.
Our initial pilot program has launched in Mumbai, India with 2 products – hand wash and body wash. We are onboarding several brands to make available products for hair care, oral care and home cleaners. By 2022, we wish to add food items as well.
