This project proposes to improve the management of organic waste and the preservation of food, through tools that are easy to use in everyday life.
Long description
We are proposing an awareness-raising campaign and series of practical workshops, focused on transforming organic waste and developing tools to prolong the shelf-life of food. The campaign will start with an information phase and then transition to a call for direct action. The project activities will be subdivided into two areas of practice.
The first area is the management of waste, such as leftovers and fruit and vegetable peels, through composting. The result of this process is compost and organic fertilizer for plants, gardens and crops.
The second area will harness food dehydrators to decrease food waste by prolonging their shelf life.
The workshops will focus on practices that encourage the use of dehydrators and compost bins. We will emphasize their benefits and practicality in daily life.
In order to implement these workshops we will acquire and install dehydrators and compost bins in our campus in Oaxaca. We will also work with users in the workshops to fine-tune the design of the two tools.
