Stakk is a reimagining of what television could be for the circular economy.
Long description
The television uses materials reclaimed from urban e waste through the process of urban mining, which is 3x more profitable compared to mining virgin materials from the ground. From the internal wiring system to the screen itself. All can be replaced, upgraded, or removed entirely. Enabling the overall products lifespan to be significantly longer than its components, hypothetically it could last forever. This encourages both users and designers to think more long term about the consequences of the waste we produce.
The television system we designed is completely modular. The product works on a system of redundant pins on a large universal connector, which acts as the common interface between every module that is connected to the Stakk. In this system, the user can remove the modules and return them for Urban mining. The user can later replace it with a module that, in theory, could have been made with the very materials that went into the module they returned previously.
This system creates a star network in which every port has access to all the inputs and outputs of every other port, allowing the modules to access any data from any other module without additional connections being established. Not only does this allow for expandability, but it also creates a universal standard for the modularity of the product as any module can theoretically be plugged into any port.
