We are Studio UP

We explore new destinations for discarded materials from the airline industry. Where others see a burden to society, we see a creative challenge to redefine the purpose and increase the value of materials. Through a process of upcycling, we create design products and objects.

We work with people who are stuck and want to prepare for their next destination in life, outside the penitentiary. In the social workplace, they learn new skills to master a craft while making sustainable products for Studio UP. We aim to inspire and support people in finding their new destination.

We take less – by using discarded material that would otherwise be shredded if it was not for us.

We make better – Maintainability and upgradability are important design factors; we want our products to last. We are exploring possibilities to offer a buy-back concept to prevent that clients would discard the materials.

Handle smarter – by preserving the mechanical and aesthetics of the materials as much as possible.

Our first product is a unisex bag for everyday traveling, made from a life vest, seatbelt and seat cover. The first prototypes have been made and we’re currently finalising the design and production instructions to produce the first batch.

Next steps
– Exploring systematic partnerships with airlines and end-of-life companies to increase our upcycling impact
– Building a strong brand and product portfolio
– Expanding the social impact outside penitentiary
