There is one type of waste that is problematic all over the world and which is easily forgotten because it is a little unsavoury. Neither the up to date solutions in the so-called “developed” countries, largely flushing toilets, nor the solutions in the rest of the world, mostly latrines, meet the desirable ecological and hygienical standards.

We have developed a small model concept for an eco-friendly dry-/composting toilet system for the beaches around a well-frequented lake in our area. The revolutionary idea of the system we propose is that the mixing of urine and feces and, even worse, the dilution of the two with (pure drinking) water becomes completely obsolete. Instead of hectoliters of potentially toxic and infectious waste, we can, with the help of these toilette-systems, offer a source for nitrogen, get compost and safe all the water so far wasted.

Whereas the concept itself is ready for implementation our next step is to include the current stakeholders into the programming, which are the local community, the lake administration unit, the district etc. They have been planning so far to spend millions of Euros on a conventional sewage system, but the population crossed their plans.  That’s  why we think they are ready for an alternative eco- and customer-friendly solution.
