a symptom of a lack of or an ineffective waste management system

An inclusive, accessible and participatory local waste management ecosystem driven by sorting waste at source by the community

Long description

Waste is Wealth (WiW) goals include:

  • educating the community about the importance of waste management and of its employment and economic benefits  through a local and accessible “Turning Waste into Wealth and Health” exhibition in partnership with the local library.
  • collaborating with community, estate and business associations to create competitions that encourage the sorting of waste at source by households, businesses, schools, colleges and every other institution or organization in the area.
  • encouraging the setting up composting facilities by two colleges and schools to generate shared income for the project, the institutions and the community
  • utilizing local waste collectors to deliver the waste to the recyclers
  • creating a digital platform to support, track and report on the project as well as to promote a market for the compost  and other ‘green’ products.
