Your textile waste can be our home comfort.

Long description

From a social and human perspective, the world has a large housing deficit.

Just Brazil, as an example, has a housing deficit estimated in around 5.5 million houses. At the same time the country faces a great challenge on providing energy for a rising low income population that is replicating the consumption standards of richer consumers. The residential sector in Brazil accounts for 24.2% of the 48.5% of the total electric power consumption, which is attributed to the building sector. Despite this scenario, the current construction practices result on poor thermal insulation, particularly on low income houses. The result is an excessive use of electrical heaters and coolers and, for those families without economical conditions, the situation affects health and economic wellbeing.

Motivated by this context, the project Your waste, our comfort seeks to present the viability of an insulation component using textile waste obtained through a wet-laid process as an alternative component for thermal insulation aiming low income households worldwide.

Textil waste is a major concern for the clothing industry in all producers regions, with increase consumer awareness and government legislation pushing the sector to higher levels of environmental performance.

The project Your waste, our comfort also seeks to increase the industrialization of the construction of housing of social interest, with solutions aimed at reducing costs and increasing speed of execution, always maintaining the performance characteristics recommended in ABNT NBR 15575: 2013 standard.
